3 Years/Months in the Event Industry
3 Years of Owning a Business

What was your previous line of work and why did you decide to pursue a career in the Wedding Industry?

I was in the Travel Industry for 8 years. I had always wanted to be a Wedding Planner and when I had children I decided that I finally had time to pursue my passion

What is your typical day like?

Weekdays are completely different to weekends. Weekdays the morning usually starts at 6:30am which consists of getting the kids ready and get them to school. Our workday starts at 11am I start late but then finish at 7pm, this gives our clients the opportunity to speak with me so they don’t have to take time away from work. I will go through my planner and work on my business for an hour which may consist of social media posting and start working through my to do list which may consist of quotations, designing, scheduling meetings and run sheets. Ensuring everything is ready for the following weekend. I will try and take 10 minutes to meditate during the day to take some time for me and ground myself. The weekends can sometimes start at 5am and be late finishes depending on the event. The weekends are usually working as fast as possible, never underestimate time, you are always better to finish earlier that expected and walk through the event 10 times ensuring everything is 100% spot on than be rushed and leave only 5 minutes left and your cutlery isnt lined up perfectly because you didnt have the time to check.

What inspires you?

I make sure I spend at least 30 minutes a day searching for inspiration whether it be Instagram or Pinterest or searching on the web. I absolutely love destination weddings that are in Dubai, Paris, New York, Amalfi Coast and I totally love researching cultural and religious aspects of weddings. MY favourite websites at the moment to follow are Hello May, Nouba and Bride

What are your favorite resources for your business?

Currently Im listening to the “Just B with Bethenny Frankel” podcast and “Wedded: The Wedding Planner” Podcast. Im usually so short on time with the kids and business so I dont have time to read books so while Im putting my makeup on, doing my hair, driving to meetings, food shopping Im listening.

What advise would you give our recently graduated students just starting out in the industry?

Don’t look at what every other planner or stylist is doing. When you first start on social media you may not have all the imagery and content that you would love to have but reach out and collaborate with other businesses in a photo shoot. If you have had no prior experience, ask for work experience or start with small weddings and offer on day coordination first to understand how a wedding runs.
